Silence

It’s no secret you have a story
That you’d prefer not to tell
So you cover it up with silence,
But your silence is no good
At keeping secrets.
It’s no secret that you have wishes
That you’d prefer not to say
So you bury them under silence,
But your silence is what
Gives you away.

Your silence
Screams out loud
It doesn’t need words
For those willing to listen,
To understand.
Your silence
Drowns all voices out,
It has its own words
To tell me what I can’t hear,
To make me understand.

Do you ever wonder
What good your silence
Even does you,
Or if words would be better
To conceal everything
That you can’t speak of?
Because your silence is no good
At keeping secrets,
Because your silence is what
Gives you away.

Because I often wonder
What to do with my silence
When it serves me no purpose.
Yes, my silence gives me away as well
And my silence is no good
At keeping secrets.
And my silence
Often makes me wonder
If I should turn to words instead.
